Towtector® Shield

What do Professional Outdoorsman have to say about TOWtector?
Charlie WorrathProfessional Fishing GuideI'm professional full time fishing guide in northern Minnesota, and I pull my boat over 10,000 miles per year. I have no choice but to travel a lot of those miles on gravel roads, up here in northern Minnesota. In past at the end of the year, it looked like someone pattern their shotgun using #9 shot on both side of my boat with the use of a competitor rock protector. I then purchased a towtector last year, it was one of the best investment I have ever made. At the end of the year the boat and trailer looked like it sat in a protected environment for the entire season. I 100% recommend this for anyone that pull any type of trailer, you will get protection your looking for. Charlie Worrathwww.mnfishingpros.comCharlie@mnfishingpro.com218-246-2159
Jason WrightHost of Ultimate Outdoor AdventuresAfter my first trip on gravel with the Towtector shield installed on my truck, and after arriving at my destination I went back to check out how effective the shield was. To my amazement I found a small rock the size of a marble stuck in the upper portion of one strip. I wish I would have taken a photo of this...that rock would most likely have either chipped the fiberglass on the hull of the boat or chipped the trailer. I was quite amazed and immediately called my partners.I used to feel the same way about the cost of these accessories, and used homemade versions rather than spending the money, and although they did help, they did not compare to the protection I can now provide any tow vehicle.
However, last year after really researching most of the different brands on the market, I just felt that the Towtector was the best. After the very first trip to the lake, and I also live on a bit of gravel, I was extremely impressed. When I got home I ran my hand through the Towtector and a number of rocks, nearly the size of a small marble, were caught in it as well as small smaller gravel pieces; the larger pieces could definitely caused some damage.
This is the way I justify the cost, which is comparable to any good mud/rock guard on the market, is that I am often trailing a $25,000 - $40,000 boat, and it is important to protect it as much as possible, and $279.00 isn't all that bad when you consider the investment it is protecting. I have watched many trucks go by on the highway and their mud/rock guards are flapping and flying way up, allowing all kinds of gravel, rocks, and other road debris to sandblast their boat and trailer.
The problem with most homemade mud/rock guards is that they don't stay down properly and they aren't build with the type of rubber that cushions the rock/gravel as it hits the flaps, therefore, the pieces of rock/gravel just bounce forward and then are forced to bounce back into the trailer or boat. I have used different types of really heaving duty material from local trucking companies, but it still has a lot of wind resistance, and the rock/gravel just bounced off of it and continued to bounce under the flap into the boat/trailer. You need something that will almost catch the pieces of rock/gravel and allow it to drop straight down. Another thing that many people forget about is that if they want the protection that is needed, the mud/rock guard must go across the entire rear of the truck, not just behind the back tires.
I felt the same way many of you do about spending the money, and was shocked at the price of most all of these type of accessories on the market cost. And, after every season I always wished I had spent the money on something really good, and every time I purchased a different boat I always swore I would make the purchase but just couldnʼt justify the cost, but after I got one, and we noticed how well it worked, three of my fishing buddies ordered one, and my dad also picked one up to protect both his 5th wheel trailer as well as his boat.
Either way, boats, campers, and ATVs these days are definitely an expensive investment and when you think of how much investing in a good mud/rock/gravel/tar guard will protect your investment, it is worth the price in the long run.
It is a tough decision, and I donʼt know that anyone could have talked me into spending $279.00, but after doing the research, and purchasing one myself, you could never talk me out of it. Boats are to expensive and I cannot stand rock chips.
I still tell myself that the when I purchase my next boat that I will have a "boat bra" made before its first road trip, but I have also told myself that before/after purchasing the last 3 boats, but I still cannot convince myself to spend the money. One concern that I personally have about a boat bra is whether or not it will scuff or scratch the hull after it has road debris on the inside whiel it is flapping in the wind as you trailer the rig down the road. That is one of the reasons I never trailer my rig with a tarp... Anyone have any experience trailering with a boat bra?
Tim - HUTCH - HutchisonPrairie du Chien WI.As a full time fishing guide I'm always looking innovative ideas and products. Towtector definitely exceeded my expectations. I am constantly towing my boat to different parts of the Mississippi river to keep my clients on the best fishing. I've tried several different brands of mud guards and none come close to comparing with the quality of protection given by Towtector. Rock chips used to be a problem but not anymore. Sand, salt and road grime are kept to a minimum. The real test is when I have to pull the boat in late Nov. or Dec. when snow or slush can be a problem. It's amazing how much cleaner my boat stays. I also really like the hanger that came with it. It's nice to be able to hang my Towtector up on the wall. It's out of the way and easily accessible. THANKS for the GREAT product. Buster GreenPiedmont,South CarolinaBeing a professional guide full time for 23 years and a tournament fisherman for 35 years, I know what gravel, rocks and other road clutter will do to a boat & trailer. This day and time a nice bass boat on the average will cost you $25,000 to $30,000 at the least. Keeping it in the best of shape is a must when you present yourself to different people every day. Plus the resale advantages of the TowTector will go a long ways when its time to sell your used boat. The big tires I run on my Suburban have a habit of picking up every little rock in the road. I am also concerned for the person behind me in their nice car or truck. Your product is great and I wish I had one a lot of years ago. I would have been able to sell my used boats & trailers for a lot more if I had one back then. I recommend this fine product to any avid fishermen or pleasure boat owner who pulls their boat a lot. Thank you, Buster Green
Bernie BarringerProfessional OutdoorsmanHost of Walleye Wisdom Television"I put on more than 40,000 miles per year on every kind of road imaginable, yet my sponsors expect me to keep my boat and equipment in top condition. I have tried several different kinds of protection systems, but not until I installed the Tow Tector did my search for the best towing protection system end. I wouldn't leave the driveway without my Tow Tector!"
Jim McDonnell, professional fishing guide, avid hunter, and outdoor writer in the Iowa Great Lakes -"I have been using a double brush Towtector® Shield behind my 4x4 pickup for quite some time. It is a piece of equipment that I wouldn't be without. Outdoor enthusiasts that pull 5th wheels, travel trailers, RV's or fisherman trailering their rigs will appreciate the Towtector® Shield. The Towtector® Shield is just as important traveling on hard surface roads as it is on gravel roads. Main highways have lots of small stones that chip away at your rig. Last summer my wife and I traveled the Alaskan Highway. A trip of 47 days and 9,000 miles. The Towtector® Shield did a great job, and hardly showed any wear and tear. That's as good as it gets."
Jim Wahl - GNWC Tournament Angler - Eldridge, IAMy fishing partner and I fished the Illinois Region of the Gander Mountain Grand National Walleye Cup this past year. As we learned more about this year's circuit, we found that one of the sponsors for 2004 was Towtector. We did some research on the product, saw how it worked on the GNWC directors' vehicles and decided that the Towtector Shield is the top of the line when it comes to towing protection. During the year, my partner bought a Towtector Shield, and we were both very impressed with the way it protected his boat, trailer and even his towing vehicle. I was ready to buy one, too, and then in early August at the Illinois Regional Championships, we won the Towtector Comeback award and I had a Towtector, too. I'm tickled with the way the Towtector has protected both my boat and trailer. Plus, it was so easy to install and easy to take off. I definitely recommend the Towtector Shield, and I certainly want to thank Towtector for being a sponsor of the Gander Mountain Grand National Walleye Cup.
Ron Mason Professional Fisherman Estherville, IA.-My wife bought me a Towtector for Father's Day. What a present! I have used it on trips all across the Midwest and to Canada. The neat thing is it protects my 620 Ranger and also my towing vehicle. It is well worth the money, and I think I will get more than my money back when I sell my boat. With over 7,000 miles on it, the Towtector still looks new. I know it will last for years and years, but if and when it wears out, you can bet I will buy another one! I also want to thank Towtector for being a sponsor with the Gander Mountain Grand National Walleye Cup.
Steve Weisman, Estherville, IA - Gander Mountain GNWC Publicity -As publicity director for the Gander Mountain Grand National Walleye Cup and as a free lance writer, I spend a lot of time on the road, pulling my Skeeter boat from place to place. That's why I chose to go with the Towtector Shield on my towing vehicle. Towtector protects my boat both from rock chips and the dirt and grime that gets thrown back into the boat by the tow vehicle. I looked at many, many boat protectors over the years, and this one is by far the best I have ever seen. Easy on, easy off. Plus, the Towtector is virtually indestructible and will last for years!
